For the passport issue, since I’m a US citizen, I get the additional credit card sized passport as well as the normal book type. I leave the book in my rental and carry the card. I’ve only been asked once for a passport in 3 years of traveling in Italy and showed the card to the police in Palermo Central station.
I find it so interesting that anyone living in the United States would question the safety of Italy.🤔

I don’t believe we have such a card in Canada but this is a great tip for Americans.
