I don't understand the desire of Anglos to live in Anglo colonies when they go abroad. If I wanted to live in an Anglo country I'd go back to one. I came here bcs I DIDN't want to live around Anglos.
I meant to ask about numbers of immigrants from English language nations. Recently learned from you or Matti or Ale that there was a significant community of English speakers in Scalea, which was a surprise. The density as a percentage of population would be very interesting as an overlay on tourist numbers. Despite “Under the Tuscan Sun”, I wonder if the “relocalizing” (Matteo) is positively correlated against English language tourists. Honestly, that would be my bias, but a few families sharing the first language - and a story of resettlement- is also appealing

Wow- you saw GIS in its infancy! I’ve been an architect and regional designer for nearly as long but only truly made GIS part of our design process in the last half dozen or so.
LOL so true! I remember making my first map in 1981 using a Hewlett-Packard one pen plotter! The software (which ran on an Apple IIe, Now in the Smithsonian), would prompt you to remove the black pen and insert the red pen, etc!

Many yes. Most, probably no. But nobody knows for sure since statistics on this are scarce. A proxy we have is transfer requests back from other countries in the EU. Between 2013 and 2022 Italy received 310,000 of them and took back only 11%. And it suspended them altogether in 2022. Other countries have long seen these migrants as a burden and are now pushing hard to send them back to Italy, which doesn’t want them either.
Good questions. It's much less than Canada (23%) but only moderately less than the US (14.5%). Asylum seekers are included in the numbers, at least since 2020, when the Constitutional Court struck down the ban on registering them as residents. Irregular immigrants are not counted by definition, but the estimates for Italy are somewhat modest at just over half a million people.

Canada-born: 24,707 (0.042%). Canadian citizens: 2,588 (0.004%). Not that many.
I’m guessing the restrictions on immigration are a bit of a hurdle.
